Conducted for

U.S. Department of Justice

Prepared by ORC Macro
Grant No. 96-IJ-CX-0045

Under a grant from the National Institute of Justice, ORC Macro and its subcontractor the Police Executive Research Forum updated and enhanced baseline information collected in a 1993 survey of community policing. In 1997, a modified version of the 1993 survey was mailed to 2,572 police and sheriffs' departments across the United States. As of December 31, 1997, 1,811 surveys with usable data were returned and processed. Respondents from 1,110 agencies stated their agency had implemented community policing.

To enable researchers, practitioners, and others interested in community policing to easily find out what programs, policies, training, organizational arrangements, and functions/activities these 1,110 agencies implemented, ORC Macro created this on-line data retrieval system.
